Resmed Mirage Swift FX – Resmed has come out with another winner – the Swift FX nasal pillow mask.  This new CPAP mask is similar to the Swift LT with some new, great benefits.  First, the FX is much more sleek and lightweight.  This minimal interface basically has no frame and can be “wadded up” for even easier travel as you don’t need a special mask compartment for travel.  Next, Resmed has designed all new pillows for the Swift FX.  These pillows are more angled towards the nostrils which leads to patients stating that they feel softer.  Resmed states that the Swift FX has been tested up to 20cm of water pressure and can maintain a consistent seal even at maximum therapy.  The Swift FX CPAP mask also comes with a set of soft wraps which can be worn around the headgear side straps. The soft material prevents the silicone headgear from slipping and ensures maximum comfort.  Finally, Resmed supplies an improved hose unit with this mask. It is lighter and more flexible that the Swift LT's. This helps to keep a fit while turning in bed and makes the pillows more comfortable in the nose.

Concerns

• Although the Stability Selector technology is a great feature, there have been some patient concerns about the plastic housing cracking. The breaks usually occur when patients tighten the straps too tightly which causes excessive stress on the plastic housing.

• The Respironics Comfort Classic is a basic nasal CPAP mask designed to fit 75% of the population.
• Although an innovator when it came out over eight years ago, the Comfort Classic CPAP mask usually works well for patients with lower CPAP pressures.

Concerns

• Respironics does not offer any replacement nasal CPAP cushions for this mask. Also, the forehead support (T bar) is one piece and can not be changed to raise or lower the mask angle.

Breeze Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask

The over-the-head construction enables patients to sleep on their sides and not get tangled up in tubing. Another benefit to this CPAP mask is no confining facial straps to deal with, which means no unnecessary marks left on the face after use. One piece of Velcro attach on each temporal area to secure this mask to the head. Although Puritan Bennett states this as a benefit, patient interviews tell us that this is a drawback to the mask design. Some patients were concerned that the mask might come off during the night as they slept.
